How Often Should You Change Your Wiper Blades?
Ever wonder how often the wiper blades on your windshield should be changed? Although some wiper blade manufacturers recommend 6 months to one year, the truth is that it all depends on the conditions your car faces.
If you use your wiper blades frequently, drive and park in areas with extreme cold or heat, or park your vehicle outside of the protection of a garage, your wiper blades may need to be replaced sooner than you think.
Also, do you have wiper blades attached to the front and to the rear of your vehicle? Many may consider replacing the front windshield wiper blades more frequently than the back since they are used more often. However, the back window wiper blades may get more direct sun and heat, depending on where you park your car on a daily basis. If you have front and rear wiper blades on your vehicle, consider replacing them at the same time.
The best way to figure out if you need to change your wiper blades, is to test them. If your visibility is affected, you don’t want to risk having worn out blades. When your wiper blades no longer make proper contact with the windshield surfaces of your vehicle — either front or back — they can begin to squeak, chatter, skip, smear or streak. Worn out wiper blades reduce driving visibility, and that can be inconvenient at best, or dangerous at worst.
