North Cascades Pass Closes For The Season

Because of how much snow has fallen in the North Cascades, the 37-mile seasonal stretch of State Route 20 will close at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28.
The snow ditches are full along the shoulder and have fallen onto the highway. Snow is in the immediate forecast today, tomorrow, and probably Thursday. This is what prompted the safety decision to close the highway to vehicle traffic.
The North Cascade Highway gates will close at milepost 134 near Diablo and milepost 171 near Mazama. This section will remain closed until next spring when it is safe for WSDOT crews to clear the road.
